Time Out For Mom– Take A Lavender Detox Bath

Time Out For Mom is a weekly series in which I hope to inspire all moms to take a few minutes of the day for herself.  As mothers, it is important to enjoy a moment or two doing something we love, from favorite activities to favorite meals.  Join me each week as I highlight what I’m doing for myself during my time out.

This week, I’m combining Time Out For Mom with Make Your Own Monday.  Maybe we can call it Make Your Own MOM-day!

One of my favorite things to do is take a nice, hot bath with a good book or magazine.  There is something about taking a soak that is soothing to the soul.  When I combine that with some good reading material, I am in Heaven.

For me, a bath just isn’t a bath without yummy, relaxing scents.  Over the years, I have tried every bath product imaginable.  I could spend hours in Bath & Body Works smelling all of their potions and bath salts.  I could also spend a fortune on those things, too.  While they are wonderful to smell and look at, they are not so great for the pocketbook!

Never fear, for you can have your relaxing bath with delicious scented water for just pennies a soak.  You only need two ingredients– Epsom salt and your favorite essential oil.

Yep, that’s it.

All you need for a lovely bath is add one cup of Epsom salt with about 10-20 drops of essential oil to your bath water.  My favorite essential oil to use for my baths is lavender.

Lavender is a soothing scent used since ancient times.  It is very useful for getting a good nights sleep, which is one reason I love it so much. It’s commonly used for it’s beauty and calming cababilites.

Epsom salt, which contains detoxifying qualities, is very inexpensive.  You can find it almost anywhere.  I usually buy it at the grocery store whenever I am doing my regular grocery shopping.

You can use any essential oil you like–some popular oils include lemon, grapefruit , eucalyptus, and Vanilla.

The cost breakdown will vary depending on where you purchase your ingredients.  My cost per bath soak is less than $.10 each–a bargain if you ask me.

Take some time, draw a bath, and relax momma.  You deserve it!
